The Ministry of Energy welcomes Romgaz’s entry into the supply market. The company prepares to become a natural gas supplier for residential and non-residential customers
The Ministry of Energy welcomes the strategic initiative of Romgaz, a flagship energy company of Romania, to expand its operations by supplying natural gas to residential and non-residential customers. This decision comes at a critical time for the country, amidst regional challenges and opportunities. Publishing the tender specifications on the SEAP platform for acquiring a modular software dedicated to managing a large number of clients marks the first step in a comprehensive plan to ensure safe and competitively priced natural gas delivery in Romania.
Romgaz once again demonstrates that it is not only a pillar of the energy sector but also a promoter of national interests. This project will provide access to natural gas for a growing number of Romanians under competitive market conditions, thereby strengthening the country’s energy security.
Through this initiative, the Ministry of Energy reaffirms its commitment to every citizen and Romania’s energy future — a secure and affordable future for all. “We are here to build a strong, energy-independent, and innovative Romania where national energy becomes the cornerstone of government policy.”
If the procurement and implementation procedures proceed as planned, the first offers targeting residential and small non-residential consumers will be available in 2025. Moreover, this project will contribute to the digitization of the energy sector, preparing it for future challenges.
“Romgaz is taking a bold step into the supply market, as we announced last year. This is another promise fulfilled, and I congratulate the company’s management for taking on this strategic project.
With this initiative, the company is expanding its horizons and reaffirming that our country’s energy must be safe and accessible for all Romanians and Romanian businesses. Romgaz will thus become the second major company in the Ministry of Energy’s portfolio to enter the Romanian supply market, following Hidroelectrica.
We are determined to transform this essential project into a pillar of competitiveness in the supply market, ensuring economic and social stability. Both companies — and others — have been mandated to expand their supply operations to regional markets in the medium term, following the validation of positive results in the local market. I prefer others to depend on us rather than us depending on others.
But we are not stopping here! We aim for Romgaz and other state-owned companies to integrate artificial intelligence solutions, once the government cloud and CRISCE become operational, to optimize consumption and reduce natural gas losses. In the near future, we will also implement a fully digitized network monitoring system, making Romania a model of innovation and efficiency in Central and Eastern Europe. In parallel, we are preparing legislative changes to encourage demand-side management and demand response systems, including differentiated tariffs, to support balancing energy supply and demand at the best prices for customers.”
