A new milestone for Romania’s energy sector – 105 more contracts signed for renewable energy investments
A new record at the Ministry of Energy! The Minister of Energy, Sebastian Burduja, has signed financing contracts with 105 more public entities for investments in new renewable energy production capacities for self-consumption, funded through the Modernization Fund. A total of over 167 million RON.
On February 28, 2025, the Minister of Energy, Sebastian Burduja, signed 105 financing contracts under the Modernization Fund call: Key Program 1 – Renewable Energy Sources and Energy Storage.
This initiative reflects the Ministry of Energy’s commitment to a sustainable energy future, based on clean and efficient technologies, benefiting communities across Romania.
The signed projects aim to support investments in new renewable energy production capacities for self-consumption by public entities. The total value of the funded projects is 167,492,987.72 RON (33,664,225.53 EUR), of which the total non-reimbursable funding from the Modernization Fund amounts to 143,309,626.41 RON (28,803,639.19 EUR). The total installed capacity will reach 23.01 MW.
*”Today marks another important milestone for Romania’s energy future. By signing these contracts, we are taking concrete steps toward a modern Romania, where every community has access to clean and affordable energy.
These projects, which will lead to the development of photovoltaic parks for communities across the country, bring us closer to our goal of transforming the national energy system, emphasizing sustainability and innovation. The most important beneficiaries remain the citizens, who will directly experience the positive effects of these projects: lower bills, a cleaner environment, and an improved quality of life. At the same time, today’s signed investments create jobs and bring long-term prosperity to local communities,”* stated Sebastian Burduja, Minister of Energy.
So far, the Ministry of Energy has signed and funded 633 contracts under this call, with a total value of 1,686,641,590.95 RON (338,996,179.39 EUR), of which 1,461,794,487.39 RON (293,804,415.2 EUR) are non-reimbursable funds from the Modernization Fund.
The total installed capacity will reach 237.4 MW. These investments provide municipalities and public institutions with the opportunity to develop and operate photovoltaic parks, significantly reducing energy costs. In many cases, these capacities cover up to 70% of the energy needs of institutions, from public lighting to the operation of schools and hospitals.
