OMV announces gas discovery in the Norwegian Sea
Estimated between 30 and 140 million barrels
Austrian energy group OMV has announced the discovery of a new gas reservoir in the Norwegian Sea following the completion of exploratory drilling. Preliminary estimates indicate that recoverable gas volumes range between 30 and 140 million barrels of oil equivalent. The well is located approximately 300 kilometers west of the Norwegian coast, at a depth of 1,064 meters, and about 65 kilometers from the existing infrastructure at the Aasta Hansteen platform.
OMV’s Vice President, Berislav Gaso, stated that this discovery is part of the company’s strategy to increase the share of gas in its production portfolio to 60% by 2030. Gaso emphasized that this find further strengthens OMV’s position as a reliable gas supplier in Europe.
OMV, which reported revenues of 39 billion euros in 2023 and employs around 20,600 people globally, continues to expand its international operations, with the Austrian government being its largest shareholder.
