Petromidia Cogeneration Plant nears completion, strengthening Romania’s energy sector
After years of delays, the cogeneration plant on the Petromidia refinery platform is finally nearing completion, having already entered the operational testing phase. The project, developed through the Romanian-Kazakh Energy Investment Fund, represents a $164 million investment aimed at enhancing energy independence and stability in Romania.
With an installed capacity of nearly 80 MW, the new plant will fully cover Petromidia’s electricity consumption, easing the load on the national energy system. The use of Siemens SGT-750 gas turbines, a first in Romania, ensures high efficiency and modern technology integration.
Beyond its industrial benefits, the project will also have a significant economic impact. The Romanian state is expected to receive around $11 million annually in taxes, while the plant’s connection to the national grid will allow it to supply energy to Romanian consumers and businesses.
This investment sends a strong message: Romania remains an attractive and stable environment for business development. By supporting large-scale projects like this, the country continues its path toward modernization and economic growth.
