Entrepreneur profile. Turnover of €5 million for DELEX, one of the largest suppliers of electric heating in Romania, after expanding into the field of renewable energies
Delphi Electric, now known as DELEX, is a company created in 2005 to provide sustainable energy independence solutions for buildings. As a result of the increase of Romanians’ interest in green energy and the expansion of the company’s activity in the field of renewable energies, DELEX registered in 2022 a turnover of 5 million EUR, having only 16 employees in Romania and 3 in the Belgian branch.
“We started with electric heating systems and expanded into renewable energies (photovoltaic systems, heat pumps, ventilation systems). We are among the few Romanian companies that have expanded their activity outside the country, having since 2019 a branch in Belgium (DELEX Belgium BV). In addition to the distribution of quality products, at a competitive price, in areas such as electricity, radiant heating panels and deicing, but also renewable energy, we offer design services and technical support at national level”, says Dorin Fleșeriu, CEO și owner DELEX.
“Henri Coandă” International Airport and the National Arena, equipped with deicing systems provided by DELEX
2018 is an important year in the company’s development strategy, DELEX becoming the sole representative in Romania of one of the largest European manufacturers of surface electric heating systems – Fenix. Currently, the company based in Alba Iulia has more than 3000 electrically heated houses in its portfolio.
Later, DELEX expanded its activity in the field of radiant heating and deicing for industrial systems, among the large-scale projects managed being the roof of the National Arena stadium, the Borzești thermal power plant or the “Henri Coandă” International Airport. Also, the largest deicing system in Romania, of over 600kW, is installed in Arad, through the regional partners of DELEX.
The company has a network of over 130 partners in the country, to whom it provides full technical support on the design side, but also in terms of the pre-sale and post-sale strategy of the products.
“Being a company in avantgarde fields, it is very difficult to find experts on the Romanian market. In this sense, we decided that we need to invest in training projects for our partners, which can be electrical installation companies, photovoltaic or thermal panels providers, but also large distribution or DIY companies. Thus, we set up a lecture room in our headquarters in Alba Iulia where partners receive all the necessary information to ensure that the heating and green energy systems are installed and maintained correctly,” stated Dorin Fleșeriu, CEO and owner of DELEX.
Romanians are increasingly interested in the benefits of energy independenceThe growing interest of Romanians in green energy and energy independence solutions led to a diversification of DELEX portfolio, which has focused its activity in the field of renewable energy. In 2022, the company became the sole distributor of ALLIMEX mounting systems (Belgium), but also of Eurener (Spain) solar panels.
“Romanians’ interest in renewable energy has increased a lot since the price of gas rose in the context of the war in Ukraine. An important aspect was also represented by the fact that a favorable legislative framework was created for the Romanian prosumers, which we had been waiting for many years. Now, we can sell or offset the energy produced from the panels, it is a new and beneficial perspective to encourage this transition from fossil fuels to heat pumps and solar panels. We started selling convectors and radiant panels under DELEX brand, and recently we have our own brand of heat pump. Alos, we are among the few companies that offer solar panels with a 30-year European guarantee”, said Bogdan Frăţilă, executive director and administrator of the company.
DELEX headquarters in Alba Iulia – confirming an “electric future”
In line with the company’s motto “The future is electric”, DELEX decided to transform its headquarters in Alba Iulia into a building that uses the solutions produced by the company in order to achieve the energy independence, thus becoming an “energy-plus” building (produces more energy than it uses). From green energy solutions, to heating, cooling, heat pumps, thermodynamic and ventilation systems, as well as solar systems, the entire building uses all the technology and solutions produced by DELEX.
The new headquarters building, designed by the concept of “Nearly Zero Energy Building”, has become one that “produces money” instead of generating maintenance costs.
“We have installed heat pumps that use solar energy, so we don’t need gas resources anymore. The building has several facilities that are unique at a regional, and possibly national level: the entire building is made of solar panels, hot water is produced due to a thermodynamic system using a heat pump that is solar fueled. Also, the ventilation system ensures that heat is recovered from the exhaust air. Basically, after one year of use, the building produces money due to the fact that we received more money than we spent from the energy suppliers. I think it’s the dream of any owner. We are extremely proud that our building is an example that self-sustainable buildings, that do not pollute and produce money, instead of costs, can be built in Romania as well“, explained Bogdan Frăţilă, CEO DELEX.
The long-term partnership with ING – a factor in the stability and growth of DELEX
The sustained development of the company, but also the diversification of the portfolio of products and services would have been difficult to achieve without the support of a suitable and predictable banking partner. Thus, the long-term collaboration between DELEX and ING Bank Romania was naturally built, as a result of the common interest in sustainability and investments in green, renewable energy.
“We were among the first business clients of ING Bank in Alba Iulia. We started working with this bank in Belgium since 2006 and were extremely satisfied with the support we have received for our projects. The decision to opt for ING when the bank also entered the Romanian market came naturally. We grew up beautifully together, and currently we have a constructive partnership, both in Romania and in Belgium, and we are glad to have the support of ING Bank in carrying out future projects.”, said Dorin Fleșeriu.
