RIGC 2023 – Bucharest becomes the hub for regional dialogue on energy transition

The 6th edition of the RIGC Romanian International Gas Conference takes place in Bucharest between 7-8 November. The event is organized by the Oil & Gas Employers’ Federation (FPPG), under the auspices of the Ministry of Energy, and the theme of the current edition is Redesigning Security of Supply. The Potential of Emerging Technologies for a Sustainable Energy Transition. RIGC 2023 is dedicated to regional and European cooperation in the field of natural gas and energy, with a focus on the decarbonization technologies of the oil and gas sector and other economic sectors, that will make it possible to achieve climate targets and maintain industrial competitiveness.

RIGC Romanian International Gas Conference is an annual event; each edition brings to Bucharest numerous high-ranking personalities, representing ministries, regulatory authorities, major companies in the gas, oil, natural resources and energy in general, as well as legal and financial specialists, politicians and analysts. The objective of the RIGC meetings is to achieve optimal alignment between policy makers, companies and the general public to identify the best energy solutions to ensure an adequate, secure, affordable and sustainable energy supply.

The RIGC Romanian International Gas Conference facilitates an essential information flow for Bucharest and Eastern Europe to reconfigure the energy map, creating an important regional pole, reflected in the stability and prosperity of the area.

This year’s theme reflects an optimistic, solution-oriented vision of the future, with a focus on macro-level technological transformations with national and international benefits. Natural gas is a major theme of RIGC, and the discussions held at this edition highlight the role of the gas sector in the energy transition and security of energy supply and, above all, in supporting innovation.

Thus, RIGC 2023 aims to raise the profile of emerging technologies and increase dialogue on their benefits. These are mainly CCS (carbon capture and storage), with the advantage of decarbonising emission-intensive sectors, and hydrogen, one of the key solutions for decarbonising transport and industry. This edition addresses, through dedicated panels, the creation of the optimal legal framework for an efficient energy transition, as well as financing and possible ways of cooperation between different stakeholders in Romania and the EU.

One of the most significant moments of this edition is the Ministerial Panel, which brings together Sebastian Burduja, Minister of Energy from Romania, Samir Valiyev, Deputy Minister of Energy from Azerbaijan, Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Hungary, Constantin Boroșan, State Secretary, Ministry of Energy, Republic of Moldova, in a high-level dialogue regarding the energy security of the area and the solutions that can be found locally, in the current geopolitical context.
