The Ministry of Energy has fulfilled two more milestones from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) for battery storage capacity and photovoltaic panel production
Sebastian Burduja, Minister of Energy: “Romania is prioritizing storage as the zero priority of the national energy system, and through the contracts signed today under the NRRP, we will already reach 20% of the country’s storage needs. Furthermore, by financing the photovoltaic panel factory in Bârlad with 33 million euros in non-reimbursable funds, we are beginning to revitalize the Romanian industry in the context of the energy transition.”
On November 4, 2024, Minister of Energy Sebastian Burduja signed several key investment contracts for Romania’s energy security. Five projects signed today support energy storage in batteries, as part of the NRRP/2022/C6/M ENERGY project call, contributing a total capacity of 791.48 MWh. The non-reimbursable support amounts to over 30 million euros, funded through the NRRP.
“Romania is prioritizing storage as the zero priority of the national energy system, and through the contracts signed today under the NRRP, we will already reach 20% of the country’s storage needs. It is essential to ensure that, in the future, the energy system can meet peak demand, ensuring the stability of the national energy system and allowing us to benefit from the green energy produced by solar and wind parks even when the sun does not shine or the wind does not blow. The more MW we add in renewable energy production capacity, which is intermittent, the greater the need for storage becomes. All these investments will reflect in the coming years in lower bills for Romanians and for companies in our country,” stated Minister of Energy Sebastian Burduja.
The signed projects include:
- Aukera Project Company Delta S.R.L. – A project of 299.75 MWh in Gura Ialomiței, Ialomița County, with state aid of 9,890,383.23 euros.
- Baboia Solar Plant S.R.L. – A project of 121.92 MWh in Ogrezeni, Giurgiu County, with state aid of 6,050,889.60 euros.
- HQ Plus S.R.L. – A project of 79.24 MWh in Sânpaul, Mureș County, with 4,275,429.60 euros.
- Energy Capital Group S.R.L. – A project of 199.13 MWh in Iaz, Caraș-Severin County, with 10,713,516.80 euros.
- HQ Curat S.R.L. – A project of 91.44 MWh in Sânpaul, Mureș County, with 4,933,188.00 euros.
A total of 118 projects were submitted under this call. 38 were approved, subject to budget constraints, and pre-contracting notifications have already been sent for 13 projects. These 13 projects have a total requested state aid value of 73,759,052.16 euros and a total installed capacity of approximately 1,575 MWh.
Also today, Minister of Energy Sebastian Burduja signed a historic contract to support the production of photovoltaic panels in our country. Through Call I 4.3, Supporting Investments Across the Value Chain of Photovoltaic Cells and Panels, five projects were submitted, of which three were approved and will receive a total aid of 47.79 million euros for a capacity of 1,779 MW/year.
Contract signed on November 4, 2024:
- S.C. HELIOMIT S.R.L. – Construction of a photovoltaic panel factory in Bârlad, Vaslui County, with state aid of 32.92 million euros and a capacity of 1,500 MW/year.
“The energy transition includes challenges but also opportunities. The billions of euros we have managed to attract for investments in new solar parks must remain in Romania as long as possible. Therefore, it is a great joy to finance a large photovoltaic panel factory in Bârlad, Vaslui County, with a capacity of 1,500 MW. This is the second such investment funded by the Ministry of Energy through the NRRP, after the one in Sfântu Gheorghe. Thus, the revitalization of the Romanian industry has begun, and the ambition is not only to stop importing all these equipment from other regions but to make Romania a quality supplier for the entire European market. The support of nearly 33 million euros will mean jobs, competitive salaries in a less developed area of the country, and Romania’s chance to fully benefit from the energy transition towards a future with safer, more accessible, and greener energy. All these successfully signed contracts are the merit of the beneficiaries who have committed to the investments, but also the merit of a team of super professionals from the Ministry of Energy, wonderful people whom I thank for what they do every day,” added Sebastian Burduja, Minister of Energy.
